Hello!
First of all, apologies we have not been able provide much update on the activities that members of the Community Trust have been busy working on behind the scenes.
Increasing community awareness
In addition to sharing updates on our Facebook page and website we will be delivering flyers to local households and holding open meetings to keep the community informed.
We have two key messages:
Development of the site for residential properties is not a certainty. No planning application has been submitted or approved by the proposed developer.
We welcome passionate and committed local residents (from any background) to help us in the campaign to preserve and open up the green space for the use of the local community.
Petition
We have fantastic support from the local community as demonstrated by the response to our petition. 1100 local residents signed to support our efforts to save the Bowling Club site for the community.
Press
The efforts of the trust were recently reported in the Evening Times. Local media organisations are very interested in following our story as we try to preserve the Club for future generations to use and enjoy.
Planning
On 16th October, the Trust submitted a Planning Application to Glasgow City Council outlining plans to develop the site in order to make it more accessible and relevant for local users while still keeping one green as a link to the history of the Club and the area. You can click here to see the full application.
Fundraising
The Community Trust have started a fundraising campaign to cover expenses associated with our efforts. Our current total is £725 and we welcome any additional support. Please visit www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/mountfloridacommunitytrust if you feel able to support us, no matter how small a donation it might be. The money helps fund newsletters, incidentals and the costs of submitting the planning application.
Next Steps
Please join us for a public meeting on Monday, 28th October, 7.30pm, Clincarthill Parish Church, 1220 Cathcart Road, Glasgow G42 9EU where we will provide a further update and answer questions (where we can!). Your support is essential in preserving an important historic community asset; this is also a chance for you to participate in shaping its future by sharing your thoughts on how it could be used.
Many thanks
