Due to unforeseen circumstances, Chris Bryant, the Chair of the Directors since the formation of Mount Florida Community Trust, has taken the decision to step back from the Board. He says:
“Over the last 3+ years Mount Florida Community Trust (MFCT) has grown in strength and determination to retain the old Mount Florida Bowling Club. To date we have fought against a redevelopment and presently have a successful planning application for the site to remain as green community space. However this does not end here: early this year the developer NOAH took possession of the site with the aim of gaining planning permission for residential flats. More than ever the community needs to engage in the campaign if it wants to save the green space.
We are delighted to announce that Nicola Smith will take on the Chair role with immediate effect. Nicola has also been a Director since the inception and is a great spokesperson for the Trust presently so will be invaluable in her new role.
This will not only see new leadership but also hopefully refreshed ideas and vision for the Trust going forward.”
Chris will be still in the background to help the Trust but now feels the time is right for a smooth transition and direction.
Allan Munro, who joined the Directors in December 2019, has been a stalwart campaigner in support of the Club site. It was Allan’s dedicated work that led to the Trust’s successful application for Planning Permission for an enhanced community and sporting facility in the space. Allan has also decided it is time to step down from the Board. We thank him warmly for all his efforts and wish him well.
Mount Florida resident Peter Craig has been appointed as a new Director, joining the team of Alan, Cathie, Gavin and Nicola. Peter has been a staunch supporter of the Trust from the start, giving practical help in a number of ways. Peter will use his background in IT to take on care of our website.
The Trust is reliant on community volunteers and MFCT would like to invite new people onto the Board of Directors and also to form a working Committee.
